Dear Church family,
We all find ourselves impacted by the outbreak of Covid 19. The CDC, Governor of Nebraska and Mayor of Omaha have all limited the size of public meetings to a maximum of 10 people, and we want to be wise in our response to those directives, as well as the virus itself. Both the potential harm of the virus (serious physical illness) and the public response (emotional, social, and economic stress) requires us to navigate some challenging paths:
  • How do we honor human authority (I Peter 2.13-17), and honor God’s authority over His Church (Hebrews 10.24-25)?
  • How do we do all things for the glory of God (I Corinthians 10.1-33), and do that which is honest in the sight of men (II Corinthians 8.21, Romans 12.17)
  • How do we walk by faith, without fear (Psalm 46.1-2), and yet be prudent and not tempt the Lord (Matthew 4.5-7)?
  • How do we wisely care for our physical health, but not ignore our spiritual health (I Peter 5.1-3)?
We (deacons and pastor) have decided that it is proper for us to submit, not only to the “letter of the law,” but to what we perceive to be the spirit of that law.   Since things are moving so rapidly, we’re going to make decisions weekly.
  • There will be no Midweek service on March 18 or 25
  • We are working to put in place livestreaming capabilities , but there will not be any public services on Sunday, March 22
  • No volleyball or basketball
This is an excellent time for us to consider what Christianity might look like in America if we found ourselves having to meet outside of what is normal for us.  It is a time of testing our faith, and it is most certainly not a time to abandon the exercise of that faith.   Let me encourage you to:
  • Be faithful in reading the Scripture
  • Pray for revival and for mercy
  • Help and encourage others as you have opportunity (Galatians 6.10)
  • Take time to think. Psalm 143:5 “I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.”
  • Don’t be afraid of any (physical, emotional, economic) outcome of this situation. Philippians 4.6-7.  God is always in complete control of all things
God bless, and I hope to see you soon,
Pastor Largent
